這齣帶有啟示的驚悚片，是新生代導演大衛寇普（曾為「侏羅紀公園」、「不成能的任務」編劇）的首作，描寫住在南加州近郊的一對夫婦麥特（凱爾麥克拉蘭 飾）與安妮（ 伊莉莎白 蘇 飾），一日早晨忙　偷閒，外出看電影，卻因電力中斷堕入一片混亂。好不轻易回到一片黝黑的家後，女兒抱病卻找不到藥房、鄰居趁機撩拨妻子、強盜趁虛而入......
導演企圖藉此片試圖檢討現代人類社會的疏離與愚蠢，試想，假如我們天天早上在黑黑暗醒來，社會能否會是以崩溃崩潰呢？
