　　在一个风光如画的英国村落，自然学家查尔斯·达尔文（保罗·贝坦尼 Paul Bettany 饰）与妻女一路过着舒适的生活。他十岁的大女儿安妮对天下布满猎奇，达尔文便教予她很多自然和科学常识，其中还包括他的进化论，但是在众人都相信天主乃造物主确那时，女儿口中的进化论无疑是危险的，以致于令她被家庭教师体罚，就连达尔文深爱的妻子艾玛（詹妮弗·康纳利 Jennifer Connelly 饰）也没法认同他的看法和研讨。更令达尔文受创的是，未几后，小安妮因抱病早夭，唯逐一个支持他完成学说的气力之源也暗淡了，整理《物种起源》手稿的工作变得如同逆行波折，寸步难行……                                    
                                本片改编自达尔文第三代玄孙兰德尔·凯恩斯（Randal Keynes）的列传小说《安妮的盒子》。
