　　希区柯克初次尝试纯笑剧片，按照同名舞台剧改编，报告农民选妻，兜兜转转以后发现意中人却近在眼前的故事。此片改编的最浩劫度在于把台词甚多的剧本改成纯靠画面表达喜感的默片，希区柯克冷静地从影片中段起头发力，将下午茶集会段落处置成典范打闹笑剧，令观众捧腹不已。由于摄影师考克斯在拍摄中期抱病，是以希区柯克还亲身掌机客串了一回摄影，而希区柯克也为了此片的宣传而给英国报纸写了一封公然信，这开启了希区柯克对他的影片停止自我宣传之路。
