　　孪生兄弟龙尼·克雷和雷吉·克雷诞生后由意志顽强的母亲维奥莱特和两个阿姨抚养成人，两兄弟从小生活在女人堆里，对妇女发生了畏敬的豪情。50年月，已长大成人的克雷兄弟变得刻毒无情了，喜好暴力。克雷兄弟在伦敦接收了一个行将开张的弹子房，革新成一家夜总会。雷吉看上了青年姑娘弗朗西丝便和她结了婚。这引发了龙尼的吃醋。他带来阿姨罗丝的凶讯，打断了雷吉和弗朗西丝的蜜月。60 年月，克雷兄弟获得了美国下层社会匪帮的支持，吞并了了他们对峙的马耳他匪帮的地皮，扩大了他们的王国。此时，弗朗西丝遭到四周黑社会繁重的压力，而且不能与她的婆婆相处，她越来越神经过敏，闷闷不乐，终究自杀了。这给雷吉冲击很大，他得了烦闷症而精神解体。龙尼为了帮助他的弟弟从失望中摆脱出来，两兄弟便向他们的仇敌倡议进犯。
