简　　介  

　　身无分文的记者丘克（Kirk Douglas 饰）漂泊一座新墨西哥州的小城，他舌如巧簧向当地报馆的主编倾销自己，宣称自己有制造消息的天赋。波涛不惊的小城生活让已经供职纽约的丘克倍感无聊。此日，主编令丘克外出采访，丘克于路却意外遭受一位小镇店东里奥被困岩穴。丘克敏感的意想到这件工作背后的消息代价，他敏捷联系州长、工程队与医生。随着丘克的一篇篇报道，旁观施救进程的公众连续赶来，本欲分开的里奥妻子由于看到有益可图而挑选留下，并与丘克站到了同一阵营，丘克放置采用费时的救援方式来保持事务的消息热度。几天内助群不竭涌入，救援现场仿佛成为游乐场。丘克与纽约的老下属讨价讨价之时，洞中的里奥却走到了生命的绝顶……
